What did 2020s jerseys look like?
Advertising is the mark of the decade. Patches spread from basketball to the rest, with MLB adding jersey sleeve ads in 2023, and they date a shirt faster than any tag does. Cuts stayed slim and the alternate programs kept multiplying.
Nike took over MLB in 2020 with the shirts manufactured by Fanatics, and Fanatics took the NHL outright for 2024-25. Because these changes are recent and well documented, a jersey from this decade is the easiest kind to date and the hardest kind to pass off as something older. The one genuine talking point is Nike’s 2024 MLB uniform rollout, whose thinner lettering and altered fabric drew open complaints from players and makes those shirts unusually easy to place.
